Η Συμβολή του Προγράμματος «ARIADNE» στην Έρευνα για τις Ανθρωπιστικές Επιστήμες.

The ARIADNE project is creating a pan-European research infrastructure dealing with a novel, although already well established, approach to the study of the past. Digital Archaeology, the focus of ARIADNE’s work, is the digital counterpart of research combining material culture and the related contributions coming from ‘hard’ sciences, with a methodology typical of the humanities, based on the critical analysis of text corpora, historical sources and linguistic studies. Such heterogeneous sources and the resulting fragmentation of data repositories make pan-European integration a major challenge. ARIADNE is currently addressing these issues with a bottom-up approach, relying on a wide community of users driving the design and creation of integrated services for digital archaeology based on standardization, common resources and joint research on innovation. In this framework, the wealth of heritage located in the Mediterranean basin and the innovative methods developed by research centres of the region are providing the foundations of a new methodology for archaeology, based on digital and traditional methods on equal terms.
